in the midst of it all

The day after Thanksgiving, I cranked up some holiday classics, made a batch of hot cocoa and then got to work blinging out our house. Norbert handled all the outdoor decorating while I, and two monkeys, tackled the inside.

Truly, the best part of holidays, for me, is sharing them with those two boys.
I definitely do enjoy having our house decorated, but I almost feel a sense of responsibility to provide that environment for them.

We are creating memories.
Honoring traditions.

And I am definitely making a concerted effort this year, even in the midst of all of this Christmas chaos, to slow down, be attentive and enjoy.

focus

Bits and pieces.

These are some of the things I see while weaving my way around my yard.
The crispness of the air.
The crunch of leftover leaves underneath my feet.
Bare white trunks.

Dried up decorative grasses.

And this is what I do.
I notice.
I focus and then I pay attention.

"Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it."
- Mary Oliver

My camera is my method of telling :)

the light

Yes.
This is the first post in nearly two months. I struggle with finding time to share here. Posts come in spurts and waves and have everything to do with time. I was talking to Norbert last night about how even though we are  incredibly busy we need to make time for the things that really satisfy us, individually. For me, at the top of that list, is photography. Moments with my camera, and my ability to share them, are incredibly satisfying and inspiring. As time passes, photography has increasingly become a powerful method for paying attention to my environment. A way to focus. Stop. And take it all in.

I took a walk today near my house and even though it was bitterly cold, the sun was out in full force. I had set out to go for a walk, to shake the fog that had settled in my head, but then 20 minutes in I head back to grab my camera. The golden hour was setting in, lighting up what leaves were left to a deep saffron yellow, contrasting with the surrounding fresh layer of snow. It was such a refreshing walk that did more than lift the fog.......it lit a spark.

the first fruits of fall

You know, for the most part, I love every collection when I finish them.
I'm proud.
Relieved....and a little worn out!
It takes a lot for me to carve out the time to:
Design, MAKE (this is obviously the whopper), scrap the ones that don't work out, re-make, photograph, edit, measure, describe and try to pretend like I'm not obsessive with each collection.
Because if I could, I would place myself in a bubble and only focus on this, until it's done.

But, you know, I'm a mom, and a wife, AND we don't shut down our business during this time. We are still making jewelry for all the orders that come in, which means the bubble is not possible (and a very good thing, at that, because the bubble is not balanced living in any way).

So, basically what I'm saying is that believe it or not, every single time I am able to get my new designs out into the world......it is an Endeavor.

Well.
Long story, short:
This is a labor of love :)

The listing starts this evening and will continue tomorrow in both Etsy and our website Shop!
