glimpses

I have become a collector..

..of stones.
I have drawers of them. Right now I have this one tray sitting on my bench because it makes me happy to look up every now and then and see this rainbow.

I am ecstatic to get my new work listed.
It's been a long while since I've had a shop update and to be honest when I first started these new pieces I felt a bit rusty. I have had ideas and designs bursting out of my head, but when I actually sat down to start:  I stared outside.
I stared at my stones.
And then I stared at my sketches.

And after a little bit it all came flooding back so that I am now at this happy frenzy state where I am a little schyzo in my studio.I am all over the place.
Like a hummingbird that can't quite settle.
I start things and before finishing them, I start other things just because I am feeling this overflow of inspiration and I can't wait a couple of hours. I have to sketch. To try it out.
It's a wonderful feeling really.

I've been enjoying the fresh air outside, too.
I've learned the hard way that I need to balance even the things I love.
If I don't force myself out and into the open, I inevitably hit a wall.

That's what happens when the pendulum gets stuck in one place.

This, admittedly, is odd because I love - scratch that - need being outdoors in fresh air to feel normal. But, for some reason I tend to hibernate in the winter (fairly normal human behavior I think). I become sluggish and more tired. Getting outside clears my head. I guess that is the one downfall from working from home: the tendency to be cooped up.

So now I am getting out more.

Besides, it's these little glimpses that make me feel my most creative.

Incredible!

I had the most wonderful surprise yesterday...I started following a very cool blog recently because I loved the items she featured. I LOVE blogs on design! Well, she decided to include me in the 'shopping and treats' section of her site! That is such a HUGE compliment....I was on cloud nine the whole evening. Thank you so much Ennui!

I took a screenshot of her blog so it is hard to see my name fourth one down, but it's there :) Swing by her site when you have time....it is lovely!

In other news, I have not yet mentioned here that I will be going on a huge trip in 9 days. My husband is Estonian and we will be visiting his family and friends there. For all of you who do not know where Estonia is, it is here:

My husband was born and raised in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. We met in college and now we are probably the first in history to have created Mexican-American/Estonian children! hahaha...probably not, but I'm sure there are not very many in the world!!

So we will be flying into Denmark first and stay with one of my husband's very good friends and his family (All of my husband's family is there). After that we will drive (thanks for the borrowed car Indrek and Signe!!) into Germany, through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and then end up in Estonia. The drive should take just over a week and then we will be in Estonia for a week and a half. From Estonia we will fly back into Denmark and spend four days with our friends again to look around there more, as well as visit southern Sweden. Overall we will be gone for just under four weeks.

Here is our route:

One of the reasons we wanted to make the drive through these countries was not only because we wanted to visit (we love, LOVE to travel), but also to buy amber in the baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia). They have the most AMAZING amber there. They come in the traditional amber color as well as a lighter yellow and also green.

So I will be buying stones while out there and I will introduce it into my shop when we get back at the beginning of next month. I will also be snapping a gazillion pictures for our personal albums as well as to sell. My shop will be closed during this duration, but I will be posting in my blog throughout my travels.

Here is an OLD picture of my husband and I in the old town of Tallinn, Estonia. This was six years ago...pre-children.

You'll hear this many times....I love Estonia. I am sooo excited to go back :)

We're back...

I'd like to say that this weekend was really relaxing...but really, I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Exactly how relaxing can it really get with little kids?! So it's nice to be home, athough it was great to get away for the weekend as well.
We walked around the town and found this adorable little bookstore. I loved the old wood floors and the old world feel it had. I could have spent an entire afternoon curled up on one of those couches reading if I could....with a cup of coffee or tea next to me.
My boys hung out in this corner of the bookstore. My oldest is going to be a bookworm like his parents. He can sit with books for literally hours.
Okay, now I get to FINALLY get back to work. I've been going crazy not being able to create and make things. These are the stones I think I'll whip into settings tomorrow.
Look for them in my shop soon :) Now it's time for a movie...

Still knee deep in weeds...

There is hope though...I think we are over the halfway mark. I am pretty tired of it now. Our intent was to just get it done so that way we could enjoy it for the summer. I hate stopping and starting projects. It really prolongs it, in my opinion. This is why we are gung-ho "yard project," right now.

My hope, is that I will be back in my shop Thursday morning, with my torch and tools back to work!! I am really missing it. I have a gazilllion ideas running through my head and I am constantly writing them down on sheets of paper. They are scattered throughout my house. They pop in my head when I am falling asleep too, some of them make it on paper, while unfortunately some have vanished (I'm hoping they will reappear someday).

Right now though, I am taking a small break and lusting after a pair of shoes.

I love this site....lots of beautiful shoes at discounted prices.

I'll be back soon with jewelry updates including a look at some of the stones I have in stock right now. I have to get a pic to my mom and sister....I owe them b-day gifts :)
